That sounded like a great training plan! It is also good to ride other experienced horses to feel what you want to feel in your own. Much like riding horses who can do flying changes in order to teach them to your own.
Back problems are a very understandable reason why people won't get on and ride your horse, but you are right, that doesn't mean they can't help you :)

My last trainer use to ride my horse once in awhile. We would some times switch horses since he knew how his horse worked and moved then he could figure mine out that way he may find a way to get her to move better and help me out. My new trainer has not. She has back problems but still manages to give good advice.
